Sourashtra College for Women, Madurai, Tamil NaduWith the increasing demand of the people for a separate college for female students, coupled with the difficulty that they had to face in seeking admission to all the existing colleges of the city, the Sourashtra College Managing Committee issued a resolution in September 1997 to establish a college only for female students. Later, it received approval from the Government of Tamil Nadu also.

In the days of its inception Sourashtra College for Women began in the Sourashtra College premises. However, the college has now shifted to its newly constructed building. For the building construction approximately sixty lakh rupees were spent. Although it showed a record of only seventy students in 1998-99, the total strength had increased to three hundred and forty during 2000-2001.

Presently, Sourashtra College for Women offers courses like B.Com, B.Com with Computer Applications, B.Sc in subjects like Computer Science, Home Science, Information Technology, Mathematics, Physics, Mathematics, Physics.

Founded with the noble objective to provide education in Arts, Science and other professional courses not only to Sourashtra Community people but also to all the hapless women in general, the Sourashtra College for Women was established in 1998. Besides providing the courses B.Com, B.Com (CA), B.Sc. (Computer Science), it is the only institution in Madurai offering a special graduation Course in Nutrition and Dietetics (B.Sc.), a coveted subject, being highly job oriented.

The library of Sourashtra College for Women has a plethora of books on all subjects like languages, Food industry, Computer Science, Nutrition and Diabetics and also books on general subjects. The College also has facilities of three laboratories like Electronic laboratory, Computer Laboratory, Nutrition and Diabetics laboratory.
