Soumyajit Ghosh

Soumyajit Ghosh is an Indian table tennis player hailing from West Bengal who earned popularity after he competed in 2012 Olympics in London.

He qualified for London Olympics after he defeated Sharath Kamal in 74th National Table Tennis Championships. As of 26th August 2014, Soumyajit Ghosh is number four in table tennis from India.

Early Life of Soumyajit Ghosh
Soumyajit Ghosh is haling from Siliguri, West Bengal. He belongs to a middle-class family in Siliguri, West Bengal. His father Hari Shankar Ghosh works for the local municipal corporation. His mother is a homemaker. In India, Soumyajit Ghosh is trained at the NIS base in Patiala under Coach Bhawani Mukherjee. When abroad Soumyajit Ghosh is trained by Coach Peter Karlsson from Falkenberg, Sweden.

Career of Soumyajit Ghosh
Soumyajit Ghosh was the youngest Indian player to qualify for the London, 2012 Olympics. Now he is competing in 2016 Rio Olympics. He also became the youngest national champion at the age of 19 years, when he defeated Sharath Kamal in the 74th National Table Tennis Championships. Soumyajit Ghosh is supported by the GoSports Foundation, Bengaluru and has been part of their scholarship programme since 2012.

Soumyajit Ghosh in World Junior Championships
In 2010, World Junior Championships in Bahrain, he won the mixed doubles bronze medal. Soumyajit Ghosh was instrumental in helping the Indian national team clinch a bronze medal in the World Junior Championships in 2011, by winning both his singles matches against South Korea in the quarter-finals. Soumyajit Ghosh was also an integral part of the team that won the Asian Junior Championships in 2011.

National Career of Soumyajit Ghosh
It was in the year 2013 Soumyajit Ghosh created history by becoming the youngest national champion ever by beating six time champion Sharath Kamal in the finals of the 74th National Table Tennis Championships. Soumyajit Ghosh followed that up by winning the singles event at the Inter Institutional Table Tennis Championships in Dharwad, Karnataka.

Soumyajit Ghosh in U21 Category
Soumyajit Ghosh also won the singles event in the U-21 category at the Brazil Open in Santos.

Soumyajit Ghosh in Lusofonia Games
At the Lusofonia Games, 2014 in Goa, Soumyajit Ghosh won gold medal in mixed doubles and men`s team event as well as a silver and bronze in men`s singles and doubles respectively. Soumyajit Ghosh was also a quarter finalist at the Senior National Ranking Table Tennis Championships in Patna, 2014.

Soumyajit Ghosh in 2014 Commonwealth Games
At the 2014 Commonwealth Games, Glasgow, Soumyajit Ghosh reached the quarter finals of both men`s singles and doubles. He also reached the semis of the team event.

On April 14, 2016, Soumyajit Ghosh has been qualified for the 2016 Rio Olympic.
