Shreyas Karle

Shreyas Karle is an Indian artist known for his works loaded with visual pun but reflects upon social situations. He was awarded the Gasworks Residency in 2013 and the FICA Artist Award for Emerging Contemporary Artist of India in 2009.

Shreyas Karle has been invited as a visiting faculty at the Penny W. Stamps School of Art and Design, University of Michigan in 2017 and for Kyoto University of Art and Design Graduate School as a Guest Lecturer in 2018.

Early Life of Shreyas Karle
Shreyas Karle was born in 1981. He has completed his Diploma in Painting from L. S. Raheja School of Art, Mumbai in 2002 and his Post Diploma in Visual Arts from M. S. University, Vadodara in 2008. The artist currently resides and works in Mumbai.

Specialization of Shreyas Karle
Shreyas Karle works with formats such as video, sculptural forms, illustrative or narrative books, collages and collaborative community projects. His works are loaded with visual pun that are often developed with reference to ordinary objects or situations. Absurdity becomes a metaphor which he uses to reflect upon social situations which thus creates an ambience of humour that mocks the ironies of reality.
