Shiva Thapa, Indian BoxerShiva Thapa is an Indian boxer from Guwahati, Assam. He qualified for the 2012 London Olympics, making him the youngest Indian boxer to qualify for the Olympics. He is also the third one from India to acquire Gold medal at Asian Games. In 2013, Shiva Thapa was named "Assamese of the Year" and was also given the ICC Sports Excellence Award.

Early Life of Shiva Thapa
Shiva Thapa was born on 8th December, 1993 to a karate trainer in Guwahati, Padam Thapa. He belongs to the Indian Gorkha community. He has six siblings, and he gathered his inspiration from his father and elder brother, both of them were state level boxers. He was also inspired from Mike Tyson, and his father took all the care in order to make sure his son had no problem pursuing boxing as a career option. During the initial years, Shiva practised hard and dedicatedly trained, balancing his studies with boxing.

At the age of 7years, he shadow practised in his living room and finally got enrolled in a professional boxing institute. He received his initial training from Pune based Army Sports Institute and is well supported by Olympic Gold Quest, a non-profit organization to support Indian athletes.

Shiva Thapa, Indian Boxer Career of Shiva Thapa
In 2008, Shiva won a Bronze medal in his category at the Children of Asia International Sports Games in Moscow. The same year he won a Gold medal at the Haider Aliyev Cup. Seeing his performance, Shiva represented India in the 52 kg weight category at the 2009 Junior World Boxing Championships in Armenia. He won a bronze medal.

At the 2010 Youth World Amateur Boxing Championship, Shiva Thapa was part of the Indian team as many participated to qualify for the 2010 Summer Youth Olympics. He ended up with a silver medal in the Championship due to an injured fist in the semi-final bout. At the Summer Youth Olympics, Shiva Thapa won a silver medal in the 54 kg category in the finals.

He qualified for the 2012 London Summer Olympics and was the youngest Indian boxer to qualify for Olympics. He acquired his first Gold medal at Asian Confederation Boxing Championship, Jordan, 2013, and gained the position of a youngest medallist boxer.

Awards and Recognition of Shiva Thapa
Shiva Thapa was awarded a cash prize by the Government of Assam for his tremendous achievement at such a young age. The following are the awards and recognitions achieved by Shiva Thapa:

2. Bronze Medal at World Amateur Championships, Doha, 2015.
3. Gold Medal at Asian Confederation Boxing Championship, Jordan, 2013.
4. Silver Medal at Youth Olympic Games, Singapore, 2010.
5. Silver Medal at AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships, Baku, 2010.
6. Bronze Medal at Children Asia International Sports Games, Yakutsk, 2008.
