India at 2012 summer Olympics won six medals – two silver and four bronze.

India at the 2012 summer Olympics performed really well, and bagged six medals, with two silvers and four bronze. India, as a nation, competed at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, United Kingdom, from 27 July to 12 August 2012. India

The events that India participated in the 2012 Summer Olympics are: Archery, Athletics, Badminton, Boxing, Field hockey, Judo, Rowing, Shooting, Swimming, Table tennis, Lawn Tennis, Weightlifting and Wrestling.

The Indian Olympic Association had sent total of 83 athletes to compete in 13 sports making it the biggest contingent India has ever sent to an Olympic Games. Sushil Kumar was the flag bearer in the opening ceremony and Mary Kom was the flag bearer at the closing ceremony.

India has won 6 medals including 2 silver and 4 bronze which is by far the best performance by India in terms of number of medals won at any single Olympic games.

Gagan Narang won the country`s first medal at the Games, a bronze in the 10 metre air rifle event.

Vijay Kumar won a silver medal in men`s 25 m rapid fire pistol event and became the third man ever representing India to win an individual silver medal after Norman Pritchard (2) and Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore.

Adding to that, Saina Nehwal, won a bronze medal in women`s singles in badminton. She has become the first Indian to win a medal in Badminton at the Olympics. She is also the second Indian woman to win an individual medal after Karnam Malleswari`s bronze medal in Weightlifting in 2000.

Mary Kom won India its fourth medal at the games by winning a Bronze in the Women`s flyweight category in Boxing. She is the third Indian woman to win a medal at the Olympics.

Yogeshwar Dutt by winning a bronze in the 60 kg Freestyle Wrestling event, won India the fourth bronze and the fifth medal overall. This is the third individual medal in wrestling after bronze medals by Sushil Kumar in 2008 and K D Jadhav in 1952.

Sushil Kumar won the Silver medal in 66 kg Freestyle wrestling. Sushil Kumar is the first Indian to win an individual medal in back to back Olympics. He had won a bronze medal in the 2008 Beijing Olympics in the same category.

There was one more shooter from Indian squad who tried hopefully his best in 50m rapid fire but was unluckily ranked fourth and therefore he was not awarded by any medal:
