Satyadev Prasad is an Indian athlete who was born on 19th September in the year 1979. He is a person who competes in archery. Over the years he has certainly did a lot to make himself popular in the field of archery. He competed at the 2004 Summer Olympics in the category of men`s individual archery. He also won his first match that helped him to advance to the round of 32. During the second round of elimination he was again victorious and also advanced to the round of 16. Prasad`s downfall came in the third match, where he lost to 1st ranked Im Dong-hyun of Korea in a thrilling match that went down to the last round. Prasad placed 10th overall. Satyadev Prasad was also a member of 11th place Indian men archery team at the 2004 Summer Olympics.
Early Life of Satyadev Prasad
Satyadev Prasad was born in the year 1979 on 19th of September in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. He started to play the game of archery from a very young age. He was highly inspired by the contribution and success of Limba Ram, the ace archer; he strived hard to rise in the sport as well.
Debut into Professional Archery for Satyadev Prasad
Prasad made news for the very first time in 1997 when he scored a Silver medal at National Archery Championship held at Jamshedpur. The very same year, he also grabbed a Bronze medal in Asian Team Championship held in Malaysia. He also participated in Rome World Championship 1999 where he finished 59th, while at Beijing World Championship 2001 he secured 12th place in team event and 31st in individual one.
Best International Performance by Satyadev Prasad
Satyadev Prasad, in the New York World Championship, 2003 in a way helped Indian Archery team take 4th place while single-handedly he managed also managed to end at 12th place. So far this is said to be his best performance. At the game, he defeated Dmitri Nevmerjitsky of Russia in the first round by 153-144. While in the second round he also defeated Anton Prylepov of Belarus by 158-152. However, in the third round he lost to Tim Cuddihy of Australia by 161-154.
The Indian team of archers in Asian Archery Championship 2003 held at Yangon, Myanmar consisted of Satyadev Prasad, Tarundeep Rai, Vishwas and Majhi Sawaiyan won the Silver Medal in the Olympic Round Team event.
Performance at Olympics by Satyadev Prasad
Satyadev Prasad actually participated at Athens Olympics 2004 and finished 11th in the team event and 10th in the individual event. This happened to be the best performance by any Indian archer at the Olympics at least till then. During that time, 5`7" tall and 141 pounds Satyadev beat Yuji Hamano of Japan by 155-150 in the 1st round, and outperformed Tshering Chhoden of Bhutan in a Tie-Breaker in the 2nd round. Finally, the reigning World No. 1 Archer Dong Hyun Im of South Korea defeated Satyadev Prasad in the 3rd round by a marginal score of 167-165.
At the same event, Indian archery team that comprised of Satyadev Prasad, Majhi Sawaiyan and Tarundeep Rai managed to finish at 11th place, when the Australian team comprising of David Barnes, Tim Cuddihy and Simon Fairweather defeated the Indian team by 248-236 points.
Achievements of Satyadev Prasad
Top Indian archer, in 2004 Athens Olympics, came very close to defeating men`s top seed Im Dong Hyun of South Korea in 2004 Athens Olympic. Prasad is an Indian archer and very popular for getting 10th place at Sydney Olympics in 2000. That was the best performance by an Indian archer at the Olympic Games.
