Samit Basu, Indian WriterSamit Basu is a novelist, columnist, screenwriter, documentary filmmaker and freelance journalist. His debut novel "The Simoqin Prophecies" was very successful. It was the first book in the bestselling Gameworld Trilogy and marked the beginning of Indian English fantasy writing. The other books in the trilogy are The Manticore"s Secret and The Unwaba Revelations. He also writes for children and his writing ranges from historical romance to zombie comedy. In 2007, he was declared one of India`s most promising `Emerging Indians` by a survey conducted by IMRB and The Week magazine, India.

Early Life of Samit Basu
He was born on 14th December 1979 in a Bengali Hindu family and grew up in Kolkata. He attended Don Bosco School and received his graduation degree in Economics from Presidency College, Kolkata. He joined Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad but later dropped out to complete a course in broadcasting and documentary filmmaking at the University of Westminster, London.

Career of Samit Basu
Basu began his career with the "Simoqin Prophecies" which he wrote in English at the age of 22. The novel was published when he was 23. His debut novel was successful and was later published in Swedish by Ordbilder, and German. The subsequent volumes in the trilogy including "The Manticore`s Secret" and "The Unwaba Revelations" were released in the years 2005 and 2007 respectively. The GameWorld trilogy garnered positive reaction and have reached Indian best-sellers list.
Samit Basu, Indian Writer
He earned world wide recognition when he wrote the superhero novels Turbulence and Resistance. Turbulence was published in the UK in 2012 and in the US in 2013. The book received very positive reviews and went on to bag a Wired Geekdad Goldenbot Award. It also appeared at no.2 on the list of hot new Amazon Science Fiction titles on the week of its release. Its sequel, Resistance was published in the UK/US in 2014 and was equally popular.

Basu also writes for younger generation. In his initial days as a children"s writer, he collaborated with Virgin Comics and worked on the projects including Devi and The Tall Tales of Vishnu Sharma based on the Panchatantra. He also co-wrote Untouchable, a graphic novel with X-Men and Lucifer writer Mike Carey and UnHoli, an episodic zombie comedy.

Next in 2013, he published Local Monsters, a comic/fantasy take about six immigrant monsters who resides in Delhi. Apart from these, he also runs a blog. His blog was one of the first waves of popular Indian bloggers.
