Career of Saikhom Mirabai Chanu
Saikhom Mirabai Chanu won silver medal in the women`s 48 kilograms weight class at the 2014 Commonwealth Games at Glasgow by lifting a total of 170 kilograms, whereas Gold went to Khumukcham Sanjita from India, who lifted a total of 173 kilograms. She has more than 12 years experience in weightlifting. She made a weightlifting national record in the women"s 48 kilograms category. In South Asiad Games Championships, she came up with a power-packed performance in 48 kilograms as she smashed the national record in snatch with a lift of 84 kilograms and equalling the national record in total with an overall lift of 190 kilograms en-route to her seventh-place finish. She lifted a total of 196 kilograms, 86 kilograms in Snatch and 110 kilograms in Clean and Jerk to win the first gold medal for India in the Commonwealth Games 2018.

At the trials to select who will take India"s two quota spots for the Rio Olympics, Saikhom Mirabai Chanu had lifted 85 kilograms in the snatch and 107 kilograms in the clean and jerk for a total lift of 192 kilograms. Saikhom Mirabai Chanu matched the record of Kunjarani Devi. Indian women weightlifters finished in top 10 in their respective weight categories at the Senior Asian Championships to brighten the country`s chances of booking Olympic quota places. Senior Asian Weightlifting Championships was a qualification event for the Rio Olympics for Saikhom Mirabai Chanu and other three Indian weightlifters.

Saikhom Mirabai Chanu was felicitated by the Chief Minister of Manipur, N. Biren Singh. In 2018, Chanu was awarded with the Padma Shri by the Government of India.
