Prabhosa, Buddhist Pilgrimage Center, Uttar PradeshPrabhosa is situated at a distance of around 1 kilometer from Kosambi in Uttar Pradesh. Prabhosa is an important site because Buddha had spent his sixth rain retreat here. However he did not delivered any religious discourses here. In the accounts of Hieun Tsang he mentions a Stupa built by Emperor Ashoka. Today no such Buddhist construction exists at Prabhosa.

The predominant features here are caves and rock shelters. The largest cave is called the Sita`s Window. This is probably the place where Gautama Buddha dwelled during his stay at Prabhosa. For Buddhist pilgrims this is an important pilgrimage center as Gautama Buddha had traveled to this place.

To reach Prabhosa one has to travel from Allahabad via Kosambi. From here bus and taxis are available in abundance to enable the pilgrims to reach Prabhosa.
