The play, Patni Prasada written by Sankara Deva bears its theme from the Bhagavata Purana. The Brahmins could not comply with the fact that Krishna was an incarnation of God. Hence the hungry cowherd friends of Krishna were refused for food when they approached few Brahmans. Later on being advised by Krishna they approached the Brahmins` wives who were ardent devotees of Lord Krishna. The women gladly welcomed them. The Brahmins earlier denied, but later got converted to the religious aspirations of their wives. This conversion is signified as the adaptation of the Krishna cult from the blind faith in ritual and sacrifice which is instigated by the Vaishnavas.
The play portrays a conflict between two schools of thoughts- ritualistic Brahmanism and the ardent followers of Krishna, Vaishnavas. The play signifies the fact that Sankara Deva took minor notice of characterisation.
