Parthasarathy Sharma, born on 5th January 1948, was a robust, right-hand middle order batsman, and a right-arm medium pace bowler.
This cricket-star, hailing from Alwar, in Rajasthan, had participated in 5 Tests and 2 One-Day Internationals, ranging from 1974 to 1977.
Sharma climbed up the eligibility scale for the Indian team, through the ladder of his splendid performances, for Rajasthan in the Ranji Trophy and for Central Zone in the Duleep Trophy.
Parhasarathy Sharma made his debut with the rejoicing top score of 54 and a matching sequel of 49, in his first Test of India versus West Indies at New Delhi, in 1974-75. Fall in the level of his performance in the next Test, shattered his spirit.
His ventures New Zealand and West Indies , gave him the proud privilege to open with the icon of world cricket and not merely India, Sunil Gavaskar, in the first Test. But Parthasarathy could gather, at Bridgetown, only six and one.
At home, against England in 1976-77 , he pocketed the scores of 4, 29, 9 and 20 in two Tests . India ended up with losses, in the two games, and was dropped subsequently. Sharma`s potentialities blossomed to the fullest extent in the circle of domestic cricket. His twenty -years long, first-class career, received much of acknowledgement.
His Ranji Trophy statistics only shines with an aggregate of 4372 runs , scored at an average of 38.69 . Again, in the Duleep Trophy he has gathered 1379 runs on an average of 38.31.
He was an indispensable element in the Rajasthan squad, which tasted triumph, recurrently in the Central Zone championship. The team also won the runners-up position, multiple times in the national competition.
This talented man happened to be a hero of the Central Zone`s maiden victory in the Duleep Trophy in 1971-72.
