Jammu and Kashmir is the northernmost State in India and has a large number of educational institutions. The state also has several medical colleges that provide quality medical education and high quality treatment to the people of the state. The medical colleges in Jammu and Kashmir have been working on achieving some certain aims and objectives. There are different kinds of medical colleges in Jammu and Kashmir like Allopathic, Homeopathic or Ayurvedic. The colleges offer a large number of courses in different fields of medical science and are entirely dedicated to make quality doctors in the state.
The medical colleges in Jammu and Kashmir admit a large number of students from all over India, every year. The students are admitted through an entrance examination and they have to pass the Senior Secondary/ Higher Secondary Part II (class 12th) Examination of 10+2 stream or equivalent examinations from a recognized statutory Board /University, as the minimum educational qualification.
Most of the medical colleges in Jammu and Kashmir are situated in the major cities like Jammu, Gandhinagar, Srinagar, Bakshinagar etc. The Government Medical College (GMC), Srinagar and the Acharya Shri Chander Institute of Nursing Education, Jammu are the two most famous and prominent medical institutions in the state. Apart from them, some of the other popular medical institutions in Jammu and Kashmir include the Acharya Shri Chander College of Medical & Hospital, Gandhinagar; the Government Medical College, Bakshinagar; Sher-I-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences, Srinagar; Jhelum Valley College of Medical Sciences, Bemina, Srinagar; Sri Chandra College of Medical Sciences, Bahu Fort; Ancillary Medical Training School, Medical College Complex, Jammu and Kashmir etc.
