The Maharajah`s Institute of Medical Sciences (MIMS) was established by Sri Rama Educational Trust, with a view to provide quality medical services to the people of Nellimarla, Vizianagaram in Andhra Pradesh. The MIMS is the first and so far, the only Teaching Hospital of its kind in these areas. The trust has established the institute according to the guidelines of the Medical Council of India (MCI) and the MIMS is affiliated to the Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences (NTRUHS), Vijayawada. Apart from a quality medical college, there is also a 500 bedded hospital situated within the campus of the Maharajah`s Institute of Medical Sciences (MIMS), Vizianagaram.

Each of the departments has been well-staffed and provided with fully-equipped laboratories and ancillary facilities, according to the norms laid down by the Medical Council of India (MCI). The major departments in the MIMS include Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Pharmacology, Microbiology, Forensic Medicine and Community Medicine.

Apart from providing healthcare to the people of Vizianagaram, the Maharajah`s Institute of Medical Sciences (MIMS), Vizianagaram also provide medical education to the students. The institute offers many courses at the graduate and postgraduate levels, including MBBS. The postgraduate courses offered in MIMS include M. Sc. in Medical Anatomy, Medical Biochemistry, Medical Microbiology, Medical Pharmacology and Medical Physiology. The institute offers courses like Batchelor in Physiotherapy, B.Sc. Medical Lab Technology, B.Sc. Nursing. The MIMS also offers some postgraduate diploma and certificate courses that include Diploma in MLT, Certificate Course in Dark Room Assistant, Anaesthesia Technician, Radiographic Assistant, Ophthalmology Assistant, Optometrist, ECG Technician, Blood Bank Technician and Audio-Metrist Technician.
