Lingadikaries is a sect of the Badagas who wear the lingam or a sign in worship of Lord Shiva. The Lingadikaries are mainly the inhabitants of the Nilgiri Hills of Tamil Nadu.
The division was occasioned by the act of a headman of the Adikaries, who, to appease the cravings of hunger, ventured to eat a little meat. His descendants are not allowed to wear the lingam, and can only intermarry with common Badagas.
