Jewel Raja Shaikh, Indian Football PlayerJewel Raja Shaikh is an Indian football player hailing from West Bengal. He played as a Winger with Mohun Bagan Athletic Club, Dempo Sports Club, and the Indian National football Team of U 23 level.

Early Life of Jewel Raja Shaikh
Jewel Raja Shaikh was born in Budge Budge, Kolkata, West Bengal. Jewel Raja Shaikh had a keen interest in cricket in his younger days and wanted to become a cricketer. But as he grew up, Jewel Raja Shaikh realized that he had a better chance as a professional footballer and so chose football to follow his career.

Career of Jewel Raja Shaikh
Jewel Raja Shaikh used to be a winger when he started playing for his youth teams, primarily on the right. His father, however, advised him to play in central midfield position; the reason being a family one. His elder brother became a striker, and his father envisioned that one day when his brother and him would play in the same team. The elder brother in question is striker Tarif Ahmed, who had also appeared for the India national football team and holds the distinction of scoring against Iraq U23 National Football team in an Olympic Qualifier in 2006. Jewel has another elder brother who also played football but stopped after suffering a serious injury. Jewel Raja Shaikh made his professional debut for Dempo SC in the I-League on 22nd September 2013 against Shillong Lajong FC at the Duler Stadium.

Jewel Raja Shaikh started learning football with the Pujali Athletic Club situated in his locality. He furthered polished his skills at SAI`s Eastern Center in Kolkata and then was selected to be a part of IFA`s Haldia Academy.

Career of Jewel Raja Shaikh with ONGC
Jewel Raja Shaikh then appeared for Bengal under-19 Football Team and then India U19 National Football team despite only being 16 and soon joined ONGC in the I-League in 2007. Despite being at the same club as his brother Tarif Ahmed, Jewel could not make a single appearance for the Mumbai based football club as he was off for national duty for the major part of his tenure there.

Career of Jewel Raja Shaikh with Dempo SC
Jewel Raja Shaikh however continued his progress with age group teams of India and was offered a contract by Dempo Sporting Club in 2008. But it was a difficult time for Jewel to be a regular in the talented Dempo Sporting Club side and only made his I-League debut in a substitute appearance against Churchill Brothers S.C. On 30th May 2013 it was announced that Jewel Raja Shaikh has rejoined Dempo SC after spending two seasons with Mohun Bagan. Jewel Raja Shaikh first joined Dempo back in 2008 after impressing for India`s age-group teams, but despite spending two years there, he could not establish himself as a regular.

Career of Jewel Raja Shaikh with Pailan Arrows
For the 2010-11 I-League season, Jewel Raja Shaikh played for Pailan Arrows, a team aimed at grooming young players for the 2018 World Cup. This team was later disbanded.

Career of Jewel Raja Shaikh with Mohun Bagan Athletic Club
On 25th July 2011 it was announced that Jewel Raja Shaikh would sign for Mohun Bagan in the I-League. On 23rd October 2011, Jewel Raja Shaikh got an assist for Mohun Bagan`s 2nd goal against his former club Pailan Arrows. He then scored his first goal for Mohun Bagan in the clubs 5-1 victory over Mumbai F.C. on 6th November 2011. On 1st February 2013 against ONGC F.C., Tolgay Ozbey`s pass fell to Jewel and he made no mistake to make it 2-0 on 63rd minute. Mohun Bagan eventually won it 3-1, which has been their 1st win since they were brought back.

Career of Jewel Raja Shaikh in International Arena
Jewel Raja Shaikh scored his first goal for the Indian U-23 National Football team against Singapore National Football Team at the 2010 Asian games. On 23rd February 2011 Jewel Raja Shaikh played his second game for the Indian U-23 National Football Club against Myanmar National Football Club. Jewel Raja Shaikh also made his debut and scored his first goal for the Indian national football team in India`s 3-0 victory over Chinese Taipei on 21 March 2011 after coming on as a substitute.
