Jayant Talukdar is a renowned Indian Archer who has been honoured with the prestigious Arjuna Award in 2007. He has become a distinguished name in Indian Archery.

Jayant Talukdar, Indian ArcherJayant Talukdar or Jayanta Talukdar is a well known and reputed archer from India. He was born in the year 1987 and has become one of the most prominent names in the field of Indian Archery. Talukdar hails from Guwahati from where he was picked up by archery coaches at a talent hunting camp. At a training camp in Tata Archery Academy in Jamshedpur, he came first among 50 boys thus impressing the coaches with his physical strength and focused attitude. He soon found his place in the Junior National Archery team of India.

Career of Jayant Talukdar
In 2004 Jayant Talukdar became the top performer of the Indian team and won the silver medal at the Junior World Championships in Britain. It was the country`s first medal at a world championship. As he upstaged a few seasoned stars to clinch the Olympic round at the 25th Senior Nationals in Kochi, he became India`s top archer in 2005. In the same year of 2005, he clinched on to the new position of Senior National Champion at the 25th Senior National Archery Championship at Ernakulum. In the following year also he retained his position as the Senior Champion in the game held in Kolkata.

In the International domain Jayant Talukdar made his debut of his career by winning the silver medal at the Junior World Archery Championship held at Yangon in 2003. He also contributed significantly to his team in the 2005 Asian Championship in New Delhi and in the Junior World Archery Championship in Britain in 2004 where the teams won a silver medal in both the games. With the nation winning the first ever medal at a World Championship in archery, Talukdar stood as the highest scorer among the national teams. His team also won the silver medal in the 2005 World Championship at Madrid and he was awarded the Best Performer at the tournament.

Jayant Talukdar has also participated at the Sydney Olympics in 2004 and has won a Gold medal at the SAF Games, Colombo. He continued his successful run and made history by winning the gold medal in the FITA Meteksan Archery World Cup at Porec, Croatia in 2006.He stands out to be the first Indian Archer to win it. In the Common Wealth Games of 2010 he won a Bronze medal in team and individual. Talukdar joined Tata Steel in 2008. In the year 2009, the Tata Steel sponsored Jayant Talukdar was seeded rank 1 for the 2009 World Cup held in Copenhagen.

For his noteworthy performances in Archery, Jayant Talukdar has honoured with the Arjuna Award in 2007.
