Indian WeightliftersIndian Weightlifters participated in the Asian championships, European Championships, Olympics and many other national and international tournaments. Some of the famous contemporary Indian weightlifters are Ngangbam Soniya Chanu, Sanamacha Thingbaijani Chanu, Sathish Sivalingam, Mohammed Asdullah, Omkar Shekhar Otari, Chandrakant Mali and Satheesha Rai.

Indian Female WeightliftersIndian Female Weightlifters are qualified in many prestigious national and international level tournaments. Mirabai Chanu came up with a power-packed performance in 48kg, which is the true inspiration of many female weightlifters.

Ngangbam Soniya Chanu : Ngangbam Soniya Chanu was born on 15th February in the year 1980. She is an Indian Woman Weightlifter. She won the silver medal in the Women`s 48 kg category at the 2010 Commonwealth Games.

Sanamacha Thingbaijani Chanu : Sanamacha Thingbaijani Chanu is an Indian weightlifter who competed in the women`s 53 kg weight class at the 2004 Summer Olympics. She originally finished fourth, but tested positive for a banned substance and was disqualified. She had also won three golds at the 2002 Commonwealth Games in Manchester and was a part of the core team for the 2010 Commonwealth Games at New Delhi, during the trials for which, she was tested positive for methylhexanamine; a stimulant commonly used as a nasal decongestant. Yumnam Renu Bala Chanu : Yumnam Renu Bala Chanu was born on 2nd October 1986. She is an Indian Woman Weightlifter. She won the gold medal in the Women`s 58 kg category at the 2006 Commonwealth Games. Yumnam Renu Bala Chanu defended her gold medal again at the 2010 Commonwealth Games at Delhi. The 24-year-old Guwahati-based Northeast Frontier Railway employee, Yumnam Renu Bala Chanu set a new Games snatch record with a lift of 90 kg in her final attempt. Yumnam Renu Bala Chanu added 107 kg to her snatch record to total 197 to win the gold medal for the second successive time

Laishram Monika Devi : Indian Female WeightliftersLaishram Monika Devi is an Indian weightlifter from Manipur who won the silver medal in the Women`s 69 kg category at the 2006 Commonwealth Games. Monika was originally part of the Indian squad for the 2008 Summer Olympics in women`s 68 kg category, but was dropped after the Weighlifting Federation stated that she was tested positive in a dope test, but the Prime Minister`s Office overruled this decision. But because the final list of participants had already been submitted to the Olympics officials, Monika could not take part in the Games.

Vandna Gupta : Vandna Gupta is an Indian weightlifter who was placed fourth in the women`s 63 kg weight class at the 2014 Commonwealth Games at Glasgow.

Simple Kaur Bhumrah : Simple Kaur Bhumrah is an Indian weightlifter. She won the silver medal in the Women`s +75 kg category at the 2006 Commonwealth Games. She has acted in Oye Jassie.

Meena Kumari : Meena Kumari is an Indian weightlifter who was placed fifth in the women`s 58 kg weight class at the 2014 Commonwealth Games at Glasgow.

Pratima Kumari : Indian Female WeightliftersPratima Kumari is an Indian weightlifter. She is twenty-eight years old. She is a double gold medalist at the Manchester Commonwealth Games in 2002. She was subsequently suspended from international competition for a period of two years.

Karnam Malleswari : Karnam Malleswari is a retired Indian weightlifter. She won the world title in the 54 kg division in 1994 and 1995 and placed third in 1993 and 1996.

Santoshi Matsa : Santoshi Matsa is an Indian weightlifter who won the silver medal in the women`s 53 kg weight class at the 2014 Commonwealth Games at Glasgow. Matsa had originally finished in bronze medal position, but the gold medal winner Chika Amalaha of Nigeria failed a drug test, elevating Matsa to silver medal position.

Khumukcham Sanjita Chanu : Khumukcham Sanjita Chanu is an Indian weightlifter who won gold medal in the women`s 48 kg weight class at the 2014 Commonwealth Games at Glasgow. She hails from the state of Manipur.Indian Female Weightlifters

Mohammed Asdullah : Mohammed Asdullah won the silver medal in the Men`s 77 kg category at the 2006 Commonwealth Games.

Farman Basha : Farman Basha was born on 25th March in the year 1974. He is an Indian power lifter. Farman Basha represented India at the 2012 Summer Paralympics in London, United Kingdom. He won a bronze medal at the 2010 Asian Para Games in Guangzhou, China. However, this was later upgraded to a silver medal after Iranian Mustafa Radhi was disqualified due to doping.

Vicky Batta : Indian Male WeightlifterVicky Batta is an Indian weightlifter. He won the silver medal in the men`s 56 kg class at the 2006 Commonwealth Games. He failed a drug test in 2007. He subsequently failed another drug test in 2009 and received a life ban.

Mehar Chand Bhaskar : Mehar Chand Bhaskar is a former Indian national weight lifter. He has been awarded the Arjuna Award. He is hailing from Rajasthan and served in the Indian Army.

Parvesh Chander Sharma : Parvesh Chander Sharma is an Indian weightlifter from Punjab. At the 1990 Commonwealth Games, he won two gold medals in the Men`s Featherweight - Clean and Jerk, Men`s Featherweight - Overall and one silver medal in Men`s Featherweight-Snatch.

Sudhir Kumar Chitradurga Padma Raju : Indian Male WeightlifterSudhir Kumar Chitradurga Padma Raju was born on 13th April in the year 1979. He is an Indian weightlifter. He won the bronze medal in the Men`s 69 kg category at the 2006 Commonwealth Games, with a combined lift of 287 kilograms

Sukhen Dey : Sukhen Dey is hailing from Howrah in Howrah District of West Bengal. He won Gold medal in the men`s 56 kg weight class at the 2014 Commonwealth Games at Glasgow, Scotland and previously won silver medal in 2010 Commonwealth Games at Delhi. Sukhen Dey left behind Malaysia`s Mohd Pisol Zulheimi with the Silver medal and Ganesh Mali with Bronze medal.

Chandrakant Mali : Chandrakant Mali is an Indian Weightlifter, who won bronze medal in the men`s 94 kg weight class at the 2014 Commonwealth Games at Glasgow, Scotland

Ganesh Mali : Ganesh Mali is an Indian weightlifter who won bronze medal in the men`s 56 kg weight class at the 2014 Commonwealth Games at Glasgow. He hails from Kolhapur city of Maharashtra state of India

Arun Murugesan : Arun Murugesan is an Indian Weightlifter. He won the silver medal in the Men`s 62 kg category at the 2006 Commonwealth Games

Omkar Shekhar Otari : Omkar Shekhar Otari is an Indian Weightlifter, who won Bronze medal in the men`s 69 kg weight class at the 2014 Commonwealth Games at Glasgow, Scotland. He hails from Kolhapur. He also participated at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in the 62 kg event.

Satheesha Rai : Indian Male WeightlifterSatheesha Rai is an Indian weightlifter and Olympian from Mangalore, Karnataka. He is also a recipient of the Arjuna Award given in 1999. He won a gold medal and two silver medals in the 1998 Commonwealth Games. He also won two gold medals and a bronze medal in 2002 Commonwealth Games but the medal he won in 2002 was stripped because he tested positive for in taking a banned substance.

Dandamudi Rajagopal Rao : Dandamudi Rajagopal Rao was born on 14th October in the year 1916. He was a famous sports person of India. He was born in Gandigunta village in Krishna district of Andhra Pradesh in a family of farmers. Impressed by the performance of Kodi Rammurthy Naidu, he took up the line of weightlifting. Sistla Somayajulu trained him in weightlifting for some time. Later he traveled with Kolli Rangadasu and gave many performances in different Indian states and countries. He died on 6th August in the year 1981.

Valluri Srinivasa Rao : Valluri Srinivasa Rao was born on 20th October in the year 1981. He is an Indian weightlifter from Andhra Pradesh. He works in the Corps of Electronic and Mechanical Engineering of the Indian Army.

S.G.Sethuraman : Indian Male WeightlifterS.G.Sethuraman was a famous sports person of India. He was born in Mayiladuthurai in a family of farmers where he had timber shop (Maravadi) and adjacent to the shop he established free gymnasia to coach youngsters namely Jeya Maruthi Gym. His father Gurusamy Padayachi was also a six-pack person. Like every other teenagers he want to shape up his body, he joined gym and was so interested, he took up the line of weightlifting. The Guru Mr. Appathurai instructor from Thiruvarur in weightlifting for some time trained S.G.Sethuraman. He was encouraged by his brother Kalimuthu. Later he traveled by himself and gave many performances in different Indian states and countries.
