Gauhati University
The first university of northeast India is the Gauhati University that is administered by the state.

Gauhati University, AssamGauhati University is located in the western part of Guwahati, in the Jalukbari area. It was established in 1948, and has been accredited with a four star status by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC).

It belongs to the Indian Council of Historical Research and offers courses under the faculties of arts, science, commerce, law, engineering and medicine. The Gauhati University also has a campus at Kokrajhar that was established in the year 1997.
