Garden of Five Senses, Delhi, is an interesting place to sense and cherish the creations of nature, along with an array of intriguing activities. This park attracts numerous visitors by being an excellent place to spend the leisure time and to socialize and interact with diverse people. The space was conceptualized and developed by Delhi Tourism Transportation Development Corporation with the aim of providing a means of rejuvenation for the people belonging to all strata of the society.
Garden of five senses lies in a spectacular setting at Said-Ul-Azaib village near the Mehrauli heritage area of New Delhi. It was inaugurated in the year 2003. Large and gorgeous rocks stand high against the bright sky and some laze on the ground showcasing the charming sculptures of the nature. The grounds of the park are ideal for relaxing and familiarizing with the surrounding environment and thereby developing sensitivity towards the same. The visitors are welcomed in the park by soaring stainless steel birds fixed atop slate-clad pillars. A spiral walkway leads to a vast plaza lying over the slopes of the park. On the way, a stone carved elephant troop amusing in water bath steals the attention. Apart from this, the garden houses 25 murals and sculptures of distinct styles displaying a large collection of public art. The garden is broadly divided into distinct zones.
Khas Bagh
Khas Bagh, a magnificent garden ornamented in the style of Mughal garden, lies on either side of the spiral walkway. Along its length, water streams flow in channels and fragrant and blooming shrubs borders its way. Several exquisite fountains embellish the park, some of which are beautifully illuminated at nights. At one part of the garden is situated a shopping and food court. A number of terraces are made facing the food court with seating arrangements. Towards the north of the fragrant shrubs a rocky ridge lies over which a stainless-steel sculpture towers amidst the rocks on a pin wheel.
Neel Bagh
Neel Bagh is another zone of the garden with a water pool surrounded by pergolas covered with plants of varying hues and appearance. Numerous ceramic chimes overhead sing with the gentle breeze. Colour Gardens form another point of attraction of the garden where blossoms of vibrant colours create a dazzling view. The Courts of Specimen Plants is another zone where rare species can be witnessed including cacti, bamboo and many herbs. On the sloppy regions of the garden an amphitheatre stands with blocks of sandstone for seating purpose. Art workshops and exhibitions are held at the rare side of the garden. The garden hosts almost two hundred varieties of plants. It is designed in such a way which arouses the mind to the beauty of life invoking the five senses of sight, sound, touch, smell and taste.
