Dingko Singh was born on 1st January in the year 1979. He is a popular Indian boxer who won gold medal at the 1998 Asian Games. He belongs to the Indian State of Manipur.

Singh was born in the year 1979 on 1st January in a distant village in Manipur to a very poor family. He faced many difficulties in his young age, and has to fight back many adversaries at the beginning. He was brought up in an orphanage.

National Boxing
The hidden talent of Dingko was identified by the trainers at a scheme started by Sports Authority of India known as Special Area Games. His consistent dedication and hard work paid off when he won the Sub Junior National Boxing Championship in 1989 at Ambala when he was just 10 years old. This achievement made him popular and helped him come to the forefront.
International Boxing
His debut at the international boxing arena was made in the year 1997, and saw him win the King`s Cup in the same year that took place in Bangkok. Apart from the win, he was also declared the best boxer of the meet.
The Golden Opportunity
He was picked up for boxing team-taking part in Bangkok Asian Games 1998, though not many were expecting him to be successful. However, the event turned out to be very successful for Dingko as he created history by winning the Gold Medal in the 54 kg Bantamweight category of the Boxing event at the Bangkok Asian Games 1998.
Journey to Gold
In his way to the gold medal, Dingko Singh stunned all and sundry by winning against Wong Prages Sontaya, (who was world number 3 during that time), an excellent Boxer from Thailand in the Semi Final Match.
Best moment for Dingko arrived when he won against well-known Boxer from Uzbekistan, Timur Tulyakov in the Final Match of the Bangkok Asian Games 1998. During that time Dingko was ranked number 5 in the world had just moved up to the 54 kg category from the 51 kg a few months back before winning the Gold, which made his victory a lot more extraordinary.
During the course of the match, he proved to be far better than his opponent was.
