Billimoga Puttaswamy Govinda is the popular name in Indian filed hockey. He was considered as one of the most formidable player in Indian Hockey Team and also he was regarded as the fastest player in Indian National Hockey Team. The India national field hockey team is the national men`s team representing field hockey in India. This hockey team is controlled by Hockey India, the autonomous governing body for field hockey in India. After retiring from hockey life, Billimoga Puttaswamy Govinda acted as a national selector. Indian Hockey Team is the first non-European team to be a part of the International Hockey Federation.

Early life of Billimoga Puttaswamy Govinda
Billimoga Puttaswamy Govinda was born on 4th March 1951 in Somwarpet of Karnataka. This small rural settlement in Karnataka is located in Kodagu district in the Indian state of Karnataka. Billimoga Puttaswamy Govinda was an Indian professional field hockey player and the former captain of the Indian Hockey Team.

Billimoga Puttaswamy Govinda was measured as one of the "fastest hockey players" during his time. Billimoga Puttaswamy Govinda was also well-known for his ball shooting ability.

Career of Billimoga Puttaswamy Govinda
Billimoga Puttaswamy Govinda played for India National Hockey team in the three Asian Games which were held in the year 1970, 1974 and 1978 with India finishing second in all the three of them.

Billimoga Puttaswamy Govinda also played in the 1972 Summer Olympics at Munich, which is located in Germany, 1973 World Cup in Amsterdam, 1975 World Cup at Kuala Lumpur. There his team (Indian Hockey team) won beating Pakistan 2-1 in the final match and at the Montreal Olympics in the year 1976.

In 1972, Billimoga Puttaswamy Govinda was selected for the World XI team in field Hockey. Billimoga Puttaswamy Govinda was conferred with Arjuna Award, one of the highest and prestigious awards in Indian Sports arena for his contribution to Indian hockey and its administration in the year 1975. After retiring from the field life of hockey, Billimoga Puttaswamy Govinda took up the role as the selector of Indian National Hockey Team in contemporary times. Billimoga Puttaswamy Govinda played a major role in selecting the Indian Hockey Team in Asian Game which will occur in South Korean city of Incheon from September 9 to October 4, 2014.
