Atul Bedade or Atul Chandrakant Bedade is a former Indian cricket player who represented the country in 13 One Day Internationals. Born on 24 September 1966 in Mumbai, he was also active in domestic cricket in which he played for Baroda. He made his debut in the year 1994 at Sharjah, playing against UAE. Atul Bedade was famed as an attacking batsman and a big hitter of the cricket ball.
Career of Atul Bedade
In the early 1990s, Indian cricketing circles was in a search for a batsman who could hit hard and this brought Bedade to limelight. Indian cricket team counted on Atul Bedade significantly for hitting sixes. He showcased his superior performance in the same in series against Pakistan in Sharjah, but the match was lost by India. However in the following matches his performance diminished and thus he was soon dropped from the national cricket team and was never offered another chance again.
In the year 2006 Atul Bedade served as the only ex-Indian player among the thirty five former first-class cricketers who took the umpires` examination, an event promoted by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for former cricketers. In 2013 he made another record of being the only ex-Indian player to pass the BCCI`s Curators` Certification Course. He in fact achieved the same with flying colours. Atul Bedade also possesses a double coaching certificate from the BCCI - National Cricket Academy.
Atul Bedade in Politics
Atul Bedade, in September 2010, contested the Vadodara Municipal Corporation election as a representative of Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP). He has been an active member of BJP and also serves as a crucial member of the sports wing of the Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS), called Krida Bharti.
