Traditional Dress of Mizo Tribe has quite a lot of similarity with the costumes of other North East Indian States. These garments are symbolic of the ethnic heritage of the inhabitants. The costumes have many colourful designs and stimulate and attract the people to buy the clothes. They follow the tradition and culture of their state with utmost respect.
Traditional Dress for Men of Mizo Tribe
Men of Mizo tribe like to live a simple life. This also reflects in their traditional clothing. They dress up in a long piece of cloth. Mizo males prefer red and white coloured coats. During the summers, they can be seen wearing outfits around their waist and a turban on their head to shield them from the heat.
Traditional Dress for Women of Mizo Tribe
There are many traditional dresses of Mizo women. But, the most favourite one is the ‘Puan’, which is quite similar to a Churidar and Kurta, with three pieces of clothing - a top clothing, a legging and a head-cloth resembling a dupatta. While Puan is among the favourite clothing, the ones they prefer to wear on occasion and wedding is called a ‘Puanchei’. It is basically a two piece with a long skirt type lower and a top or shirt worn above it. ‘Kawrchei’ is a magnificent blouse. It is made of cotton material and hand woven. The blouse is commonly worn with Puanchei while dancing. Traditionally, these are brightly coloured, with chequered designs.
