Tipi is an orchid sanctuary located in the Tezpur Town of Arunachal Pradesh. It houses several varieties of orchids. Tipi, covering an area of 10 hectares, is surrounded by hills and semi green tropical rain forest vegetation. The entire sanctuary campus houses orchidaria, museum, garden, office buildings, tissue culture lab and herbarium. The orchid glass house built of fibre glass roof is the center of attraction of Tipi. It exhibits a display gallery and a central pond with fountain in it. The glass house has 1000 orchids hanging in baskets and pots. Some of the species of orchids found in Tipi are cattleya, dendrobium, vanda and paphiopedilum. It is the biggest orchidarium of Asia with 7500 varieties of native, rare and endangered species of orchids. Tipi Orchid Research Centre was inaugurated in the year 1972.
Visiting Information to Tipi
The best time to visit the sanctuary is from October to February. Tipi Orchid Research Centre is located 180 km away from Guwahati on the banks of Kameng River. Nearest airport is at Tezpur (60 km) and nearest railhead is at Bhalukpong (7 km). Regular buses are available from Tezpur to the Tipi Orchid Research Center.
