Malliabad Fort is located at Raichur in Karnataka state. This fort has been declared as a protected historical monument by the Department of Archaeology of the state. The ruined Vishnu Temple and large elephants carved out of white granite stone are the main attractions of this fort. Malliabad Fort, built during 13th century by the Kakatiyas of Warrangal, is also associated with the Vijayanagar Empire. During the Battle of Raichur against Adilshahis, A. D. Krishnadevaraya stayed in the fort with his army.
Elephant Carvings in Malliabad Fort
There are two life sized elephants carved in white granite inside the fort. They are under the supervision of Government authorities. Initially the elephants were placed in front of Vishnu temple; they once adorned the gateway of the Malliabad Fort.
