Lighthouse Beach is the southernmost beach in Kovalam area which is also the most frequented by tourists in Kerala. Its intermittent beams at night render the beach with an unearthly charm. It is among the best vantage points to view the coast line in Southern Kerala. Lighthouse beach is a perfect spot to enjoy water activities and sports, such as surfing, parasailing and paragliding. The beach is also well known for its lush palm plantations and trees that dot the entire area.
Etymology of Lighthouse Beach
Lighthouse Beach is named so because it is home to the stunning red and white coloured Vizhinjam Lighthouse. This 35 metre long lighthouse is situated atop the palm-covered Kurumkal Hill. Tourists can climb the spiralling staircase inside the lighthouse and enjoy a breathtaking view of the beach.

Lighthouse beach is a real amongst all in Kovalam. It is quite close to Thiruvananthapuram, thus easily accessible by every possible means of transport. The nearest railway station is Thiruvananthapuram Central, about 11 km and the nearest airport is Trivandrum International Airport at a distance of about 10 km.
