Located approximately 40 km from Sawai Madhopur, the Khandar Fort is an epitome of the rich culture and tradition of Rajasthan. With a significant historical background, the Khandar Fort was regarded as the ‘security post of Ranthambore’ during the times of medieval India. It was during this time that the fort was under the rule of Sisodia kings of Mewar.
Attractions near Khandar Fort
There are 7 temples within the Khandar Fort along with an old Jain temple which displays the exquisite work of carved rock idols of Jain Gurus. There is also a Hanuman temple with a single stone idol of Lord Hanuman with a demon under its feet. The other temples at the Khandar Fort are Chaturbhuja Temple, Gobind Devji Temple, Jagatpalji Temple, and Jayanti Mata Temple. The Chaturbhuja Temple houses an impressive idol of the 4 armed God and an annual fair is held at the Jayanti Mata Temple. There is also the beautiful Rani Temple of the Khandar Fort located on top of the highest platform of the fort and perhaps the most magnificent part of the Fort. There are a lot of damaged sculptures here.
Other attractions at the Khandar Fort are the 2 huge water tanks of Ramkunda and Laxmankunda. There are also 7 small ponds but due to lack of maintenance, only 4 ponds are clearly visible. Wild animals like tigers, leopards, and many other are seen around the fort premises.

The Sawai Madhopur Junction is the closest railway station at a distance of about 45 km from the fort and the Jaipur International Airport is the nearest at a distance of 212 km from the Khandar Fort.
