Shergarh Fort is 400 years old located in Bihar and known as the fort of Sher Shah Suri.

Shergarh Fort is located in Rohtas, Bihar and known as the fort of Sher Shah Suri, who was himself popular as Shergarh. This 400 years old fort has always been a great attraction among medieval historians. Currently, trees and shrubs have covered the rooms of the fort taking it towards destruction. Shergarh Fort spreads over an area of 6 square miles and is situated on the eastern banks of River Durgavati. This hill fort of Sher Shah was also known as Badal Garh. Shergarh Fort is strategically located at a distance from Rohtasgarh Fort on the other side of the plateau on the banks of the Durgavati River.

Structure of Shergarh Fort
The main entrance of the fort opens into two large covered ‘dalans’, which are supported by pillars. These two ‘dalans’ can accommodate almost 1000 persons. The palaces and buildings inside the fort campus are surrounded by two courtyards. The larger one is called ‘Bada Angana’ and the smaller one is ‘Chhota Angana’. The larger court is surrounded by a series of oblong rooms, galleries with covered stair and a set of ladies chambers in the middle of each side. Some of the door jambs are seen with elaborate carvings in geometrical designs. The roofs of the palaces are flat and they are supported on pillars and brackets.

Visiting Information to Shergarh Fort
Shergarh Fort is located at a distance of 32 km south-west from Sasaram. Sasaram Junction Railway Station and Sasaram Airport are the nearest to reach the fort. From Sasaram a bus or car can be taken to reach the destination. National Highway 19 connects Sasaram to other major cities of India.
