Use of Hartshorn as TreatmentThe antler or the Hartshorn of a deer incinerated in closed vessels is used in painful affections of the heart, pleurodynia, sciatica and lumbago. It is given in doses of about 22 grains with clarified butter. Hartshorn jelly or a decoction of burnt Hartshorn in water was used to treat diarrhoea and dysentery. Hartshorn was used to treat insect bites, sunstroke, stye and snakebites.
