Indian Weightlifters are contributing in national and international tournaments, but they did not get the scope to enrich themselves with good and proper infrastructure.

Indian WeightliftersIndian Weightlifters participated in the Asian championships, European Championships, Olympics and many other national and international tournaments. Some of the famous contemporary Indian weightlifters are Ngangbam Soniya Chanu, Sanamacha Thingbaijani Chanu, Sathish Sivalingam, Mohammed Asdullah, Omkar Shekhar Otari, Chandrakant Mali and Satheesha Rai.

Ngangbam Soniya Chanu
Ngangbam Soniya Chanu is an Indian woman weightlifter. She won the silver medal in the Women`s 48 kg category at the 2010 Commonwealth Games. She is from Imphal West district of Manipur.

Sanamacha Thingbaijani Chanu
Sanamacha Thingbaijani Chanu is an Indian weightlifter who competed in the women`s 53 kg weight class at the 2004 Summer Olympics. She originally finished fourth, but tested positive for a banned substance and was disqualified. She had also won three golds at the 2002 Commonwealth Games in Manchester and was a part of the core team for the 2010 Commonwealth Games at New Delhi.

Sathish Sivalingam
Indian WeightliftersSathish Sivalingam is an Indian weightlifter who won the gold medal in the men`s 77 kg weight class at the 2014 Commonwealth Games at Glasgow, Scotland

Mohammed Asdullah
Mohammed Asdullah is an Indian weightlifter. He won the silver medal in the Men`s 77 kg category at the 2006 Commonwealth Games.

Omkar Shekhar Otari
Omkar Shekhar Otari was born on 28th March 1989. He is an Indian Weightlifter, who won Bronze medal in the men`s 69 kg weight class at the 2014 Commonwealth Games at Glasgow, Scotland. He hails from Kolhapur, Maharashtra. He also participated at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in the 62 kg event.

Valluri Srinivasa Rao
Valluri Srinivasa Rao is an Indian weightlifter from Andhra Pradesh. He works in the Corps of Electronic and Mechanical Engineering of the Indian Army.

Chandrakant Mali
Chandrakant Mali is an Indian Weightlifter, who won bronze medal in the men`s 94 kg weight class at the 2014 Commonwealth Games at Glasgow, Scotland.

Sukhen Dey
Indian WeightliftersSukhen Dey is hailing from Howrah in Howrah District of West Bengal. He won Gold medal in the men`s 56 kg weight class at the 2014 Commonwealth Games at Glasgow, Scotland and previously won silver medal in 2010 Commonwealth Games at Delhi. Sukhen Dey left behind Malaysia`s Mohd Pisol Zulheimi with the Silver medal and Ganesh Mali with Bronze medal.

Satheesha Rai
Satheesha Rai is an Indian weightlifter and Olympian from Mangalore, Karnataka. He is also a recipient of the Arjuna Award given in 1999. He won a gold medal and two silver medals in the 1998 Commonwealth Games. He also won two gold medals and a bronze medal in 2002 Commonwealth Games but the medal he won in 2002 was stripped because he tested positive for in taking a banned substance.
