Manmohan Shetty is an Indian film producer and entrepreneur who is the founder and developer of Adlabs Films Ltd which is credited to be one of the largest media and entertainment firms of India. Manmohan Shetty is also credited as one of the pioneers of the concept of multiplexes in India. Starting his career with the advertising films processing company Adlabs, Manmohan Shetty established himself as one of the most successful personalities of Bollywood. His production house Entertainment One has produced some of the most successful films of Bollywood.
Early Life of Manmohan Shetty
Manmohan Shetty was born in Mangalore city of Karnataka. He did his schooling from the same city. He pursued his higher studies from Somaiya College in Mumbai where he studied Arts. He is also an alumnus of Film and Television Institute of India (FTII).
Career of Manmohan Shetty
Manmohan Shetty began his career in the year 1976 with his first company Adlabs Films Ltd. which he initially established as an advertising films processing company. Gradually his firm started feature film processing through a state-of- the-art laboratory set up in the Film City, Mumbai.
The first feature film processed by the firm was Shekhar Kapur's Masoom and with time took over almost 90 percent processing of the Hindi film industry. 16 mm to 35 mm format films are the speciality of the firm. Subsequently Manmohan Shetty ventured into the production of films like Holi, Hip Hip Hurray, Chakra, Ardh Satya and many more. Through their diverse endeavours, Adlabs Films Ltd. won National Award for their technical contribution in Indian cinema many a time. In the year 2000 Adlabs went public and extended their business into film exhibition. The first and the largest IMAX dome of India was launched by him in the year 2001 at Wadala in Mumbai.
Manmohan Shetty founded Walkwater Media Ltd in the year 2007 which comprised an integrated business including production across films, animation, television and other media. His two daughters, Aarti Shetty as the Creative Head of its Film Production Division and Pooja Shetty Deora as the joint Managing Director, are associated with the company. Tere Bin Laden, a hit Bollywood flick was produced by the company in 2010. Subsequently Manmohan Shetty initiated another entertainment project titled Adlabs Imagica which is a theme park spanning over an area of 300 acres and situated on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway. The park employs around 500 people and has the capacity to accommodate about 20,000 visitors. Manmohan Shetty also served as the chairman of National Film Development Corporation. He also owns the production company Entertainment One which has produced super hit films like Munnabhai MBBS, Inteha, Main Madhuri Dixit Banna Chahti Hoon, Dev, Bluffmaster, Apaharan, Namastey London and many more.
