According to 2001 India census, the town had a population of 7353 of which males constitute 50% and females 50%. In this town, 8% of the population was under 6 years of age. On the basis of the report of same year, the town had an average literacy rate of 64%, higher than the national average of 59.5%. The male literacy was 75% and female literacy was 53%.

The town has four primary schools and one upper primary and secondary school each. The upper primary school is called Panchayat Union Middle School.
