Channagiri is a town in Davanagere district in the southern state of Karnataka. It is located at 14.03° N 75.93° E. It is located at a height of 662metres(2171 feet). This town
was constructed by Rani Chennammaji of Keladi,in order to celebrate her victory.Demographically ,this town has 18,517 inhabitants. Males constitute 52% of the population and females 48%.Literacy rate of the region is quite high with 71% while the national average is 59.5%.Literacy among the male is 74% while among the female section of the population it is 67%. 13% of the population is under 6 years of age.
The city is inhabited by a diverse population .There are Hindus ,Muslims as well as Jains.Every year the town celebrates the Gaddigeshwara Utsava for three days.The main temples of the town are situated on the hill .One temple is situated at Mudenahalli (Aanjaneya)and the other temple at Kote (Ranganathaswamy).Gowramma temple which is located at Gowramma street is the heart of the city.
