Carnival is a three-day long festive event which is organised during November every year at Leisure Valley, particularly in Sector-10, in the northern Indian state of Chandigarh. The members of Chandigarh administration and Tourism Department arrange this grand festival, which is celebrated with great pomp and glory. Chandigarh Carnival aims at promoting the creative talents of the regional inhabitants of this region who participate in various contests which include paintings
modelling, singing competitions and many others. Children, youngsters as well as adults readily engage in all these activities. The authorities ensure pick and drop options are offered to the senior citizens, to encourage their participation.
Chandigarh Carnival commences with a grand parade in which interesting performances are put forward by colourfully dressed participants. Many troupes from France, Hungary and Jordan exhibit their talents at this carnival. Numerous stalls are established at the Leisure Valley, to commemorate this festive event, which are adorned with manifold unique themes. Several kinds of musical instruments
, unique photographs
and pictures, Le Corbusier's masterpieces and many other works are displayed in such stalls. Vintage Car Exhibitions are also conducted sometimes, in the Chandigarh Carnival.
In the year 2013, the central theme of this carnival was '100 Years of Indian Cinema
'. Revellers were greeted by filmy food
stalls, a makeshift cinema hall named 'Bombay Talkies
', and a 'Bollywood
Cell' which was meant for producers. Artificial models portraying different Bollywood characters created by students of Chandigarh College of Architecture
and Government College of Arts. About 20 beautiful floats were executed, which depicted Indian actors
like Hrithik Roshan
and Raj Kapoor
. Various forms of cultural programmes are also arranged in Chandigarh Carnival.
