Economy of Perundurai
The State Government of Tamil Nadu set up the Perundurai SIPCOT in July 2000. It is spread over an area of 2000 acres of land. With the increasing demand from different textile industries in the year 2007 SIPCOT extended itself and purchased another 1,600 acres of land. With the establishment of the industry several dyeing industries moved to Perundurai from the nearby cities like Tirupur, Erode and Coimbatore. It has also led to the influx of people in the town.
Educational Institutions of Perundurai
Perundurai has set up different schools and colleges to provide education to children residing here, Govt. Boys Higher Secondary School, Govt. Girls Higher Secondary School, The Unique Academy, Sagar vidhya Bhavan, Kongu Vellalar Matriculation Higher Secondary School and Vivekananda Matriculation Higher Secondary School. The region has also established several notable medical, engineering and other colleges like the IRT Perundurai Medical College and Hospital, Maharaja Engineering College for Women, Surya Engineering College, Kongu Engineering College, Nandha Engineering College, Nandha Arts and Science College, Sasurie College of Engineering, Maharaja Arts and Science College, Nandha Polytechnic College, Erode Institute of Chemical Technology, Kongu Polytechnic College, Erode Sengunthar Engineering College, Maharaja College of Education and District Institute of Education And Teacher Training.
Pilgrimage Centres in Perundurai
Perundurai is an important pilgrimage centre with several temples visited by devotees from nearby and far off places. The town has a Soleswarar Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. Other than this, there are temples dedicated to Lord Vishnu and Amman in the vicinity. Adjoining the Perundurai Boys Higher Secondary School another famous shrine, the Chellandiamman Temple is located. A temple known as Chennimalai Murugan Temple dedicated to Lord Murugan is situated almost 13 km away from Perundurai. The Thindal Murugan temple is on the way to Erode. The Kottai Muniyappan Temple has been constructed on the opposite direction of the Perundurai New Bus stand. Other than these Hindu temples a Jain Temple has also been constructed at Vijayamangalam at a distance of 5 km from Perundurai towards Coimbatore.
Perundurai also has few churches here like the Sharon House of Worship situated in Vannamparai Erode Road and the Berean House of Worship positioned in Vijayamangalam Kovai Main Road, at a distance of 10 KM from Perundurai.
Perundurai is well connected to the National Highway 47 as well as the State highway. It links with all the major cities here.
