The Prajapati's son belong to two classes, the gods i.e. the devas and the demons i.e. the asuras. Both struggled hard with each other to gain power over the world. The gods thought of overcoming the demons by means of the Udgitha. They told the organ of speech to chant the Udgitha for them. When the demons came to know that they can be conquered by the chanting of Udgitha, they spoilt it with evil. That evil can be found when one speaks in an improper way. Then the Devas asked the organ of smell to chant the Udgitha for them. The demons then ruined it with evil. That evil is found today when a person smells improper things. The gods then asked the organ of seeing to chant the Udgitha for them. The demons feared that the gods might win over them hence they destroyed it with evil. It is that evil when one perceives improper things. The gods then instructed other organs like vital breath, hearing and mind to chant the Udgitha for them. It was then discovered that it was the vital breath prana that kept them to their true selves. It is known as ayasya as it is the spirit or the rasa of the limbs or anga of the body, angirasa. The god took away the death of the gods to the last of the quarters and left the evil there. Later they took it beyond death. First it carried to the organ of speech, then to organ of smell and finally to mind. By chanting the vital breath he obtained food for himself. The gods requested the vital breath to share the food and it did so. Hence, whatever food one eats reaches the organs through the vital breath. He who is aware of the vital breath is able to support himself. It is known as ayasa angirasa as it is the essence or the rasa of the limbs or the anga. Prana is regarded as the essence of the limbs. It is also known as Brihaspati, the lord of the Rig Veda. Speech is known as Brihati (Rig) and its lord is the vital breath. It is also known as Brahmanaspati, the lord of Yajur Veda. Speech is Brahman and its lord is the vital breath. prana is the saman. 'Ut' is the vital breath. The universe id held by the vital breath, also known as uttabdha. Githa or song is the speech. One who is aware about the value of this saman or the vital breath is able to obtain wealth. A person who is aware of the wealth of the saman receives gold while a person aware of the support of the saman gets support. Finally the priest recites the saman. While he chants it, the sacrificer must recite few hymns to call upon the lord to guide him from the unreal world to the real world. He requests god to show the way from darkness to light and also from death to immortality. This meditation helps him to win over the world. One who is thus, aware of the saman i.e. the prana or vital breath does not fear of being left back in this world. |
