Prana, apana and vyana form eight syllables and the third foot of the Gayatri has eight syllables. These are the three forms of the vital breath. A person who is aware of the third foot of the Gayatri conquers all the living beings that are in the universe. The turiya i.e. the fourth is the Darsata (apparently visible) foot of the Gayatri, is the Paro Raja meaning the super mundane. The Purusha in the solar orb is apparently visible by the yogis. A person who knows about the fourth foot of the Gayatri is radiant with power and glory. That Gayatri that rests on the Darsata foot, the Paro Raja again rests on truth. The eye is truth, for the eye is indeed truth. The truth seen with eyes rests on strength and the vital breath i.e. the Prana is strength. Thus, truth rests on the vital breath. Therefore it can be said that strength is more powerful than truth. The Gayatri is also based on the vital breath within the body. That Gayatri takes care of the gayas. The organs are the gayas hence the Gayatri protected the organs. As it protected the organs, it is known as Gayatri. The Savitri verse, which the teacher communicates to the pupil, is no other than this. It saves the organs of the pupil to whom it is imparted by the teacher. The Savitri which the teacher teaches is this Gayatri. It preserves the life of the pupil to whom he has taught. There are some who teach the pupil the Savitri which is in the Anushtubh metre but should only impart that Savitri which is Gayatri. A person who is aware of the Gayatri receives as gift the three worlds full of all their riches will only obtain the fruit of knowing at the first foot of the Gayatri. Next if a person accepts gift as the treasure of knowledge that the Vedas offer he would only receive the fruit of knowledge at the second foot of Gayatri. Again, if one receives as much as covered by all living beings one would receive fruit of knowing only at the third foot of the Gayatri. Again, the fourth Darsata Paro Raja foot of the Gayatri is never obtainable by one. |
