River of Stories is considered as one of the first Indian graphic novels, published by Kalpavriksha in the year 1994. It is written and illustrated by Orijit Sen.

River of Stories, Indian Graphic NovelsRiver of Stories is one of the renowned Indian graphic novels written and illustrated by Orijit Sen. River of Stories was published and distributed by Kalpavriksha in 1994 and is considered as one of the first no-fictional graphic novels in the country. The novel revolves around various controversies on political, social and environmental issues in the country regarding the construction of the Narmada Dam Project. The entire graphic novel was published with the aid and funding from an NGO.

Orijit Sen is considered amongst the earliest creators of graphic novels in India. He released River of Stories in the year 1994 and eventually worked on several other short comics for various magazines namely Chemuranga. He is working on his next graphic novel on Kabir; an animation titled Karnama and is also the co-founder of People`s Tree.

Some of the prime characters in the graphic novel River of Stories include Kujum Chantu, Anand, Malgu and Relku. The basic plot revolves around these central characters and how they deal with the various situations that are directly and indirectly linked with the Narmada Dam controversy.
