Rohit Sharma led the Mumbai Indians team in the year 2015. They are one of the main teams of the city, together with clubs like the Mumbai cricket team and football club Mumbai FC. The Mumbai Indian Teams is owned India's biggest conglomerate, Reliance Industries, through its 100% subsidiary IndiaWin Sports.
Reliance Industries Limited bought the rights for the Mumbai franchisee of the IPL for a total of 441 Cr during the auction on 24 January 2008. After lots of deliberation, the team was named Mumbai Indians. The RIL bid made the Mumbai Indians the most expensive franchise in the 2007 IPL auction. However the 2011 auction saw the Sahara Pune Warriors team purchased by Subroto Roy taking that title of the most expensive buy. The Mumbai Indians' first team was uncovered on the 17th of April, 2008 in Mumbai. The team plays their game at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. Previously MI team had played their game at the DY Patil Stadium.
Mumbai Indians won their IPL title in 2015 after they defeated Chennai Super Kings by 41 runs. They started the season with 4 Indian Premier League defeats mainly due to their bowling. They even lost Aaron Finch and Corey Anderson due to injury for the rest of the season. That is when Lendl Simmons got a chance back into the team and with the help of 6 half-centuries, gave the team solid starts throughout the season. He was the top scorer for Mumbai Indians with 540 runs and joint second (with Ajinkya Rahane) in total for the season behind David Warner. The introduction of another strike bowler Mitchell Mcclenaghan in the team provided good support to Lasith Malinga upfront. Mumbai then went on to win 9 out of their last 10 Matches to win the title thanks to solid batting performances from Simmons, Rohit Sharma, Ambati Rayudu and Kieron Pollard and good bowling from Malinga, Mcclenaghan and Harbhajan Singh.

The team logo has the Sudarshana Chakra with the team's name engraved in it. The team official team colour for MI for 2008 and 2009 has been the same, except for the colour shade and additional sponsors. In 2010 a new kit with golden stripe was unveiled. And in 2011 kit used in 2010 were used with a change in the main sponsor name. The 2011 jersey also had three golden stripes going towards the back on the side of the jersey for the new players in the team.

Mumbai Indians was also the champions of Indian Premier League 2013 after defeating Chennai Super Kings at the final by 23 runs. Mumbai Indians clinched their first IPL Trophy as they defeated Chennai Super Kings by a convincing 23-run margin in the Pepsi IPL 2013 final at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Sunday night. Batting first, MI posted 148 after opting to bat first before their bowlers restricted CSK to 125.
