Hymns in Book IV of Atharva Veda
Hymns in Book IV of Atharva Veda is made up of forty hymns. These hymns are divided into eight amivaka-groups of five hymns each.

Hymns in Book IV of Atharva VedaThere are forty hymns in Book 1V of Atharva Veda. The first hymn speaks of Cosmogonical and mystic theological theory. Next is a plea to an unknown God. The third hymn is a prayer for protection against tigers, wolves, thieves and other harmful creatures. The following hymn is regarding restoration of virile power. A lover`s sleep-charm forms the fifth hymn. The sixth hymn is to make a poisoned arrow harmless. Again the seventh hymn is to make a poisonous plant harmless. Benediction at the consecration of King constitutes the eighth one. The ninth hymn is addressed to a precious ointment for safety and affluence. Inauguration of a shell amulet makes the tenth hymn.

The eleventh hymn is a glorification of the sacrificial milk pot. Next is the prayer to restore a broken bone. Thirteenth hymn is regard to the restoration of sick man to good health. The following hymn is regards to the accompanying the sacrifice of a male goat. Fifteenth hymn constitutes the prayer for speeding the coming of rains. The sixteenth hymn comprises of the omnipresence and omniscience of Lord Varuna. The following hymn is to secure freedom from various evils. The eighteenth one is a charm against the invocation of enemies. Next hymn is securing protection for all. Twentieth hymn is acquisition of superhuman powers of sight.

Twenty first hymn is the glorification and benediction of cows. The following hymn is a benediction on a consecrated king. Twenty third hymn is a prayer for protection of Lord Agni. The following is the prayer and praise to Lord Indra. Twenty fifth hymn is a prayer and praise to Vayu and Savitar. Next is the hymn to Earth and heaven. Thereafter is the hymn to Maruts. Twenty eighth hymn is dedicated to Bhava and Sarva. Invocation to Lord Varuna forms the twenty ninth hymn. Thirtieth hymn is regarding speech.

The following both hymns are ascribed to Manyu or Wrath. The thirty third hymn is to Lord Agni for prosperity and safety. Next is glorification of Vishtari sacrifice. Thirty fifth is regarding milk and rice offering. A charm against fiends, human enemies, and pests form the thirty sixth hymn. Again the succeeding hymn is against Gandharvas and Apsaras. Thirty eighth hymn is regarding a success in gambling. Thirty ninth hymn is a prayer to various deities for good health and prosperity. The pen ultimate hymn is against rival worshippers.
