Navagraha Temple, Guwahati, AssamSituated atop the Chitrasil Hill in Guwahati in the state of Assam, the Navagraha Temple was built by the Ahom king Rajeshwar Singha in the late 18th century but was recently renovated during the late 1923 to 1945. The Navagraha Temple enshrines the nine Shiva Lingams, which represent the nine different celestial bodies. With a Shiva Lingam in the centre symbolising the Sun, each of the other nine Lingams are covered with a coloured garment symbolic of each of the celestial bodies.

The word Navagraha means the nine planets and the temple is representative of that. These nine celestial bodies which are chronologically represented are the "Surya", "Chandra", "Mangala", "Buddha", "Brihaspati", "Shukra", "Shani", "Rahu" and lastly "Ketu".

The Guwahati railway station is the closest at a distance of about 3 km from the Navagraha Temple and the Lokpriya Bordoloi International Airport is the nearest at a distance of almost 29 km from the temple.
