Bassein Fort, Maharashtra
Bassein Fort is one of the earliest constructions of the Portuguese who came to India and settled in the western coast of India. Built by the Sultan of Gujarat this fort was captured by the Portuguese in 1534 and renovated by them. This fort functioned as a major observation centre for the Portuguese who used to reside in this fort since 16th century.
