![]() History of Mizoram University The University is the result of the Mizoram Accord between Mizo National Front and Government of India, on 30 June 1986. The University was however not created de novo and the North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU), since 1978, had been running in the same campus. The Mizoram University Act, 2000 was enacted by the Parliament of India, incorporating all the facilities of the existing Mizoram campus of NEHU. The jurisdiction therefore extends to the whole of Mizoram. The University had, initially, 7 academic departments inherited from NEHU, but now has a total of 30 academic departments. The University under NEHU functioned from various rented buildings in Aizwal for around two decades. Vast changes have been incorporated in the University since its establishment. The main administration of this institute has been shifted to Tanhril, which is now its permanent campus. The University campus is located amidst majestic hills and lush greenery. The academic session of this university begins in the month of July and admissions are entertained from the month of May. |
