The college is situated in the historical city of Mysore and it was established by Jagadguru Sri Shivarathri Deshikendra Mahaswamiji. The college was founded in the year 1986-87 with a view to offer quality dental education to the students and also to provide treatment to the people of Karnataka.

The JSS Dental College & Hospital, Mysore is offering the undergraduate course of BDS and postgraduate course of MDS, in eight special divisions. The college is affiliated to the Jagadguru Sri Shivarathreeshwara University (JSS University) from 2008-09 and has been recognised by both the Dental Council of India (DCI) and the Government of India. The college was affiliated to the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS), Bangaluru from 1996-97 and to the University of Mysore from 1986-87, in its initial periods. The college is working with a vision to strive for excellence in dental education, practice, community service and research. Its mission is to develop and to raise dental professionals in advancing oral health.

The JSS Dental College & Hospital, Mysore offers the undergraduate degree course, BDS (Bachelor of Dental Surgery) with an annual intake of 100 students. The candidates willing to get admitted in this course are required to pass P.U.C. or equivalent course of 10+2 stage, with Biology, Physics and Chemistry as the optional and English as one of the main study language. The candidates should obtain at least 50% aggregate marks in Biology, Physics and Chemistry and 50% of marks in English. The JSS Dental College & Hospital, Mysore offers the postgraduate degree course, MDS in eight different special divisions. The specialisations are Oral Medicine & Radiology, Pedodontics & Preventive Dentistry, Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, Periodontics, Conservative Dentistry & Endodontics, Prosthodontics, Crown & Bridge, Community Dentistry and Orthodontics.

For getting admission in the MDS course in JSS Dental College & Hospital, Mysore, the students have to have a BDS Degree with minimum 50% aggregate marks, from an institution recognized by the Dental Council of India (DCI).
