Assam Medical College is the first medical institution in the state.

Assam Medical College, Dibrugarh, AssamAssam Medical College (AMC) is situated in the district of Dibrugarh in Assam, India. The college came into existence as a part of the movement for bringing modern Medical Education in Assam. The college started as a medical school named after Dr. John Berry White, the Berry White Medical School. The school initially admitted students without any minimum educational requisite, and most of the students got admitted after studying up to class VII and VIII. After the formation of the Indian Medical Council in 1933, and the all India Medical Licentiate Doctors Association, a demand for the up gradation of the medical Schools to Medical colleges was made. The Government then soon formed an adhoc committee for the purpose of upgrading the medical school to full fledged medical college. As per the recommendation of the committee, the Assam Medical College (AMC) was established in Dibrugarh, on 3rd November 1947.

The Assam Medical College (AMC), Dibrugarh has been working with some certain aims and objectives. The college offers several courses in both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels and it offers diploma and super speciality courses, as well. The college also provides training in different medical fields. The courses that the AMC, Dibrugarh offers include MBBS, MD in Medicine, Anesthesiology, Radio Diagnosis, Dermatology, Psychiatry, Physiology, Paediatrics, Biochemistry, Pathology, Pharmacology, Community Medicine and Microbiology.

The Assam Medical College (AMC), Dibrugarh offers the courses like MS in Anatomy, Orthopedics, ENT, Ophthalmology, Obstetrics & Gynecology, Surgery in the post graduate level. Apart from that, the college also offers courses in the subjects like Forensic & State Medicine, Ophthalmology & Otorhinolaryngology. The college offers training courses like Diploma in Pharmacy, General Nurse Midwifery Course, Auxiliary Nurse Midwifery Course, Laboratory Technician`s Course, Physiotherapist Course, ECG Technicians` Course, and Lady Health Visitors Promotional Course, as well.

The Assam Medical College (AMC), Dibrugarh is affiliated to the Dibrugarh University and its MBBS Degree is also recognised by the Medical Council of India (MCI). The college admits 170 students in the undergraduate courses every year and the students are admitted through an entrance test, conducted by All India and state level selection bodies. The college has separate hostel facilities for both ladies and gents.
