The teams of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh played against each other in the first Pre-Quarter-Final match of the Ranji Trophy, 1973-74 and the match was held at Jamshedpur from 22-24 February 1974. The Bihar team showed a wonderful performance in the match and clinched a victory of 99 runs for entering into the Quarterfinal stage of the tournament. The second Pre-Quarter-Final match of the Ranji Trophy, 1973-74 saw a clash between the teams of Bengal and Maharashtra at Calcutta from 22-24 February 1974. Though the match remained drawn during the stipulated duration, the match officials decided to allow the Maharashtra team to compete into the Quarterfinal stage. The Quarterfinal stage of the tournament started with the clash between the teams of Hyderabad and Maharashtra, as the teams met with each other in the first Quarterfinal match of the Ranji Trophy, 1973-74. The match took place at Hyderabad from 01-04 March 1974 and the drawn match saw the Hyderabad team advancing to the Semi-Final stage of the tournament. The second Quarterfinal match of the Ranji Trophy, 1973-74 was played between the teams of Bihar and Bombay at Jamshedpur from 01-04 March 1974. The Bombay team played very well in the match and beat the Bihar team by 59 runs for advancing to the Semi-Final stage. The clash between the teams of Rajasthan and Railways was held in the third Quarterfinal match of the Ranji Trophy, 1973-74 and the match was held at Delhi from 01-04 March 1974. The drawn match saw the Rajasthan team entering into the Semi-Final stage of the tournament. The fourth Quarterfinal match of the Ranji Trophy, 1973-74 involved the teams like Karnataka and Delhi and the match took place at Delhi from 01-04 March 1974. The Karnataka team got into the Semi-Final stage of the tournament by beating the Delhi team with a margin of 223 runs in the match. There was a clash between the teams of Karnataka and Bombay in the first Semi-Final match of the Ranji Trophy, 1973-74 and the match was held at Bangalore from 15-18 March, 1974. The eventual winner of the championship, the Karnataka team played equally good against the Bombay team in this match and as a result, the match remained drawn after the specified duration of time. However, the match officials decided to allow the Karnataka team to proceed towards the Final of the tournament. The second Semi-Final match of the Ranji Trophy, 1973-74 saw a clash between the teams of Hyderabad and Rajasthan at Hyderabad from 15-18 March, 1974. The closely contested match saw the Rajasthan team winning by a narrow margin of only 12 runs and setting a clash with the Karnataka team in the Final of the tournament. Thus, the Final match of the Ranji Trophy, 1973-74 saw the Karnataka and Rajasthan teams locking their horns together at Jaipur from 23-27 March 1974. The Karnataka team dominated the Rajasthan team throughout the Final match and eventually clinched a victory of 185 runs for winning the championship trophy of the tournament. With this win, the Karnataka team ended the 15 year long winning streak of the Bombay team, as well. |
