Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College is situated in the premises of the Aligarh Muslim University in Aligarh. It is situated at a distance of four kilometers from the Aligarh Railway Station. It is one of the important colleges of the Aligarh Muslim University, the Faculty of Medicine and the aim of the college is to provide under-graduate and post-graduate medical education and research facilities in the College. The construction of the college was conceived since the days of Muhammadan Anglo-Oriental College.
The Indian Medical Council recognizes the MBBS degree conferred by the Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College. The Institute of Ophthalmology of this University was established in 1952 and is a reputed institute. With the college there is a hospital, which has one thousand beds an in the Institute of Ophthalmology at the Gandhi Eye Hospital there are one hundred beds. The main college building, the residential hostel (Hadi Hasan Hall and S. N. Halls) for students and the residences for the staff (Medical Colony) and the Hospital are situated in one campus. It is one of the few medical colleges in India, which is completely under the administration of the University and is linked with the other departments of the University.
