Dr.Yashwant Singh Parmar University of Horticulture & Forestry was set up in the year 1985. It is named after the first Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh. It was inaugurated by the late Rajiv Gandhi, Prime Minister of India, on 30 April 1988.
Its aim is to promote Horticulture and Forestry relates studies and increases the horticulture production in the country. It offers various courses related to horticulture and forestry through different departments under two college namely College of Horticulture, College of Forestry. This is subdivided into 14 departments. This is the first University of Horticulture & Forestry in Asia. It has a school that specializes in the study of apples, called Apple School at Nauni. The department of management is under the college of horticulture providing degree in three basic courses: Marketing, Finanance, and Human Resources with agribusiness.
