Sanjeev Sharma, born on 25th August , 1965, in
Delhi, functioned chiefly as a right-arm medium pace bowler. He could also perform as a right-hand batsman, when required.
This emerging bowling talent was reckoned as a probable opening partner to the awesome
Kapil Dev. Hence , the expectations were quite high during the 1980s.
Sanjeev Sharma`s inaugural match in Test cricket was the third Test of the India Vs New Zealand series, held in
Hyderabad of
Andhra Pradesh, from 2nd to 6th December in 1988.
In his very debut Test , he has captured 3 wickets, by bowling for 17 over. The skilled Ajay Sharma, kindled high hopes of prosperity for Team India, at

the beginning.
His last Test, and probably the second Test performance was in the England Vs India at the famous Lord`s , from July 26-31, in 1990. In the first innings he bowled for 33 overs, and conquered the wicket of AJ Lamb. While in the second innings, he bowled for 17 overs, and did better. He grabbed the two wickets of GA Gooch and MA Atherton, respectively .
Sanjeev Sharma made his ODI debut , much before that of his Test career. His first ODI was a India Vs West Indies match , played at the historic grounds of Eden Gardens, Calcutta (presently Kolkata), on January 2, 1988. Though he couldn`t contribute a single run, yet he was successful in taking the wicket of CA Walsh.
The last ODI was the England Vs India match, on just before his last Test, being on July 20, 1990. Sanjeev Sharma gathered, a single wicket, the wicket of PAJ De Freitas, sending him out of the crease after the batsman `s score of only one run.
November 2004, Sharma retired from cricket.
If not a very popular player, yet Sanjeev Sharma, did taste success in life, attributed to his own mettle.
