in the state since ages. With the advent of British
rule, this religion became more prominent in India. The culture and traditions of this religion had been greatly sheltered and nourished by the churches built in different parts of the country. Being the religious centres of Christians the churches of Kerala attracts a number of devotees from all over the country.
Arohana Marthoma Church
Arohana Marthoma Church is situated in Pathanamthitta District
of Kerala. The church was founded in 1900 and is the first Marthoma church of this region. It holds a significant position in the history of Syrian Christians of Malankara.
Situated in Kasargode district, Bela church is a Roman Catholic Church. This ancient church was built in 1890 and is considered as the most ancient church of the district. It is under the administration of Mangalore Diocese and exhibits beautiful Gothic Revival architecture.
Bethel Marthoma Church
Bethel Marthoma Church is another Marthoma church located in Chengara. The church was constructed in 1978, owing to the need of a church for the growing Marthomites in this region.
Church of Our Lady of Hope
Church of Our Lady of Hope is a significant church of the state situated in Cochin. The church was established by the Portuguese in 1605 AD and is the oldest church of this region. It is a part of Diocese of Cochin
Holy Family Church Mannila
Holy Family Church Mannila stands in Kottayam district
. It was built in 1927.
Immaculate Heart of Mary Cathedral
Another important church in Kottayam district is Immaculate Heart of Mary Cathedral. It is enlisted among the tallest church of the state that exhibits gothic style of architecture. The foundation stone of the church was laid in 1956 marking the beginning of the construction which completed in 1964.
Kannamcode Cathedral is a prominent centre of worship for Christians, located in Adoor. It belongs to the Malankara Orthodox Church and houses the resting place of revered Philipose Ramban who owes the credit of translating The Holy Bible to Malayalam language for the first time.
Niranam Church is also known as Niranam Valiya Pally. It is the most ancient church of Kerala and is believed to be founded by the Apostle of Jesus Christ
, St. Thomas the Apostle, in 54 AD. The church has a beautiful architecture with tall granite cross at the entrance of the building.
Pallikkunnu Church is another popular church of north Kerala. It is a Roman Catholic Church established in 1908. The church was founded by a French priest Fr. Jefreno.
In Thrissur District, Pazhanji Church is situated. It is believed that the church had been found by the believers who migrated from Cochin
St Francis Church
Ancient churches of the state enlist St. Francis Church which was built in the year 1503. It is the oldest European church of the country. The church is very significant historically as it is the witness of the European colonial struggle in India.
St Sebastian's Church
St Sebastian's Church is located in the Neyyassery village of Kerala. Standing amidst the picturesque beauty of nature the church was erected in 1852 AD. It was however rebuilt in the year 1987. The church is under the administration of Syro Malabar Church of India.

These churches are also enlisted among the important monuments of India and thus have been well preserved through years. They greatly enrich the cultural and national heritage of the country.
